This tour invites you to experience a cultural immersion in the heart of the Wayuu community. Guided by local artisans, you will learn ancestral Wayuu weaving techniques and share unique moments with Miriam and her family, who have passed down this knowledge from generation to generation.
Detailed Itinerary:
7:30 am – Transfer from Riohacha to the Wayuu Ranchería
We depart from Riohacha towards Manaure, where you will be warmly welcomed by the Wayuu community.
8:30 am – Welcome at the Ranchería and Presentation of the Weaving Workshop
Upon your arrival, Miriam and the local artisans will introduce you to the art of Wayuu weaving, explaining the cultural and symbolic importance of each technique and design.
9:00 am – Practical Knitting Classes
Immerse yourself in the practice of Wayuu weaving:
Learn to knit under the guidance of expert knitters.
Discover the traditional techniques and materials that make this tradition unique.
Start your own Wayuu backpack, taking home the crochet hook and the beginning of your weaving to continue your work throughout the journey.
10:30 am – Community Gathering
This is a space to learn about the Wayuu lifestyle:
Explore the ranchería, sharing stories, traditions, and learning about their daily life.
Discover how traditional hammocks are made and learn to sleep in one like the Wayuu people do.
We will share a coffee in the community kitchen, getting to know their everyday environment.
11:30 pm – End of the tour and return to Riohacha
At the end of the experience, you will have the opportunity to explore more of the community before returning to Riohacha, taking with you the memories and the beginnings of your own Wayuu weaving.

This experience offers you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in Wayuu life and culture for 24 hours. Accompanied by expert weavers, you will learn the traditional art of weaving, discover the symbolism behind each design, and share special moments with a Wayuu family. The experience includes preparing traditional meals, spending a night under the stars in a chinchorro (Wayuu hammock), and sharing stories around a campfire, connecting you deeply with their cultural heritage.

Day 1:
2:00 pm – Departure from Riohacha to Manaure
After lunch in Riohacha, we will begin the transfer to the Wayuu community in Manaure.
3:30 pm – Meeting with the Wayuu Community and Weaving Workshop
Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the community and introduced to the artisans who will guide you in learning traditional Wayuu weaving techniques.
Crochet Workshop: You'll start your own Wayuu bag under the guidance of expert weavers, who will share the secrets of their craft. You'll take home your crochet hook and materials to continue weaving during your trip.
6:00 pm – Preparation of the Traditional Dinner
Participate in preparing dinner alongside the Wayuu women, learning about their culinary customs and ancestral ingredients.
Travelers who wish to do so can help in the kitchen, creating a space to exchange experiences while sharing the preparation of food.
8:00 pm – Bonfire and Ancestral Tales
Gather with the community around a campfire.
This is an intimate moment to listen to stories, learn about Wayuu culture, and ask questions. Local liquor will be shared, and oral tradition will be celebrated, allowing the ambiance of the fire and stars to connect you deeply with this moment.
10:00 pm – Night in a Chinchorro (Traditional Wayuu Hammock)
Relax in a Wayuu hammock, known as a chinchorro, and enjoy a night outdoors under the starry sky of La Guajira.
Day 2:
6:00 am – Wayuu Sunrise and Daily Activities
At dawn, you will experience the daily routine of the Wayuu community.
He helps release the goats for grazing and accompanies family members in the search for water or firewood.
You will learn to make the famous Wayuu arepas over a wood fire, which you will then enjoy for breakfast.
7:00 am – Community Walk and Support with Local Tasks
Explore the surroundings of the community while learning about the important points of its history and daily life.
Participates in daily tasks such as collecting firewood or helping with other support work.
9:00 pm – Last Moments with the Community
Say goodbye to the Wayuu community, with the option to ask any last questions or complete your weaving.
9:30 am – Return to Riohacha
Around 10:30 am, we returned to Riohacha, taking with us not only the knowledge of Wayuu weaving, but also a deeper spiritual and cultural connection.
